Deleting Your History

When you use the internet, browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox are designed to leave traces behind indicating sites you’ve visited on the internet. There are some simple steps you can take to prevent your internet activity from being traced. In general, you want to delete two things:

  • Your cache ( where the computer stores copies of files you’ve recently looked at with your browser.)
  • Your history list (a list of web addresses of the places you’ve recently visited)

Important Tip

When you clear the cache and the history list, you erase not only the information on where you’ve been, but all other information that had been previously stored there. If your partner checks and sees that the cache and the history list have been completely emptied, they might guess that you’re trying to hide something.

To avoid this, spend some time visiting sites that you think your partner wouldn’t object to, after clearing the cache. This will start to fill the cache again so that your partner is less likely to notice anything different.
